Government Energy Policy
Yes, we all hear about government energy policy. It sounds very profound. We're sorry, but all the government, and politicians, seem to be able to do is tax us and do whatever their lobbyists and contributors tell them to do.
The answer to "What should our energy policy be?" is that we only want one thing:
The only policy should be independence from foreign oil.
Support anything that does that, and don't support anything in any way that doesn't do that. Yes, give tax breaks to entrepreneurs and companies who are doing that. Otherwise, the government should just stay out of the way.
Most politicians are lawyers who only know how to fight like dogs for whatever side they're on. They fight for whoever is paying them - it's a nightmare of vested interests. Don't fall for it.
Most politicians can't solve real problems or run real businesses. They're lawyers who get fat off the campaign-contributor-lobbyist-government con game and dismiss the "little people" who "don't know what's good for them".
The government could actually be very helpful in infrastructure projects like it was back in the 1950s in building highways and freeways. The main problem with most alternative energy solutions in transportation is the lack of a network of available refueling stations for hydrogen, natural gas, ethanol, electric car recharging and so forth. New infrastructures are vitally needed.
It would be very easy to map out the major highways in the major cities and the highways that connect them across our country. Then offer tax breaks and/or selective grants to private firms who want to participate in building this infrastructure along those highways and corridors. It could be done on a competitive bidding basis, without political favoritism.
Unfortunately, we would have to trust politicians to do this. They seem incapable of making wise decisions these days. Let's at least try to elect some competent and effective people to these positions. A good start might be to avoid electing lawyers of any party.
This country was built by smart and effective people, not government hacks and ethically-challenged politicians. Let's get our way out of this mess by being smart and effective. You don't need to be angry at the politicians or vindictive. If they get in our way, vote them out of office.
Do whatever you can to become independent of foreign oil - for yourself, your family, your group and your community. Be smart, be effective and lead yourself out of this. There's plenty of us around to give you a hand.
